Desparately need some help--searching for a Vet/video director

Hey all,

My song, Welcome Back Vet , has caught the eye of the charity Welcome Back Veterans They wanna feature it in the redesign of their website and make it a mainstay of their efforts to help make a difference for our returning servicemen and -women. Even more exciting is they'd like to make a video for it to be at the center of their efforts.

So, here's my plea: help me find a war vet director to make this with me, Major League Baseball, the McCormick Foundation, and the Entertainment Industry Foundation.

It's for charity so it will have to be donated time, but the exposure will be fantastic and the cause is noble to say the least.

Please pass this along to any vets you might know who might be able to help directly, through their contacts, or anyone else you think might be able to help us to find an amazing director who also happens to be a veteran. It's an amazing opportunity for us all to do something extremely positive. Please help me find that person. I know he or she is out there.

I can't tell you how much your support means to me on this.

Hey all,

The cold winds are really blowing here in NYC. It's great to be back home nonetheless, back to the routine of making this dream happen. Many good things are happening on that front from placements around the web to our upcoming college tour to the new tunes almost in the can and the one that's here.

On a very cold day like this one, my mind turned to those who are really cold, those who don't even have the luxury of warming up. One of the virtually unspoken tragedies of this perpetual war (and all before it) we're fighting in foreign lands is what happens to the vets who survive but who come back to a home they have trouble fitting into. As a final but often unending gift from the military our brave young men and women too often come back to end up in the prison system, on the street, divorced, and generally wounded in ways that may not ever be cured completely. The sacrifices they make are too great.

This song may do nothing other than tell the story of one such vet who finds himself homeless on Xmas eve. That would be enough. If it inspires conversation about what we can do to share the burden all the better. If it means something to you, spread the word and join us on our mailing list at www.everyboy.net.

Any or all of these may be good for you - or not. Here's a truth: nobody knows what to do right now, me included. The music business model is broken right now. That means every single job position in the music industry has to re-educate itself and learn / discover / adapt a new way. Change can be painful and hard and scary. If any of these entities we're discussing are interested in you, ask them about their strategies IN DETAIL. None of them know for sure what to do. Some of them have an idea of how to negotiate these waters. Most of them don't. If you are young and use the internet, you know more about your audience than they do - for sure. This is a revolution and you can be a part of it. The old guard is dying, if you have good ideas - try them.
Bottom line - before getting involved with anyone else, ask yourself what it is they can clearly bring to your table and is it worth their cut. Do they know what they're talking about, and does their strategies match yours?

I have not gotten into the basics which I believe are self-evident: believe in what you do, do the best work you can, work hard, practice, practice more, find your voice, hone in on it, take chances, play live (if applicable), practice more, keep believing in yourself and prepare for the long haul."

Welcome to the blog world eb...

I'm an old-school boy in a digital man's world just getting used to the future where I have access to say what I want when I want.

Bringing me to the point of this first installation: I'm working away trying to finish writing eb's next cd, due out next fall. Ugh! Workin thru themes, and styles, and trying to top my first efforts. It goes well. I am both scared & excited to be on this journey, a good sign no doubt. But, like most hikes worth their weight in salt, I do not know exactly how I will get from here to there. I mean I know I can get there & I know I have gotten there in the past & I also know that the best of what art I have managed to create on this earth has come to me from some blessed place that I was honored enough to be in but it is always a matter of actually getting there. Jordan had to make the shots, Tiger those putts, Dizzy those notes, each and every time. Or at least at lot more often than their contemporaries. And there my sports analogy breaks down, because art is not sport & there are no putts to sink or hoops that swish really. There's only successful expression of an idea, with success being defined first and foremost by its creator. Anyway, that's what's going on. I will try to keep as good a travelog as I can along the way. I hope it will be useful to those who might one day want to tread this path.

Good news my dear friend, grammy-award winner, John Holbrook (http://www.johnholbrook.net/ ) has graciously agreed to continue working with eb on his recordings.

The current east coast ensemble is goin to Art Farm Studios (http://www.artfarmrecording.com/) Oct. 16 to record a few tunes to tide over and reward the faithful in the meantime. I look forward to working with Dave Swanson & Sean Boyd again, & my bandmates Billy Masters, Rich Mercurio, Dan Weiss, and Lee Nadel for the first time in the studio.
